Solo Drilling Guide
Make the most of every minute on court.
Have a plan. Read and understand the routine before you go on court. Not memorised, just be familiar with it.
Always heat up properly before you start drilling. Taking solo drilling seriously trains you to always focus on court.
Hold a spare ball of the same dot colour in your non-hitting hand. This keeps it warm and avoids disruption if you break one mid-routine.
Using targets can sharpen your focus — but only if they help you. Some players find them stressful. Use them if they feel right.
Use whichever routine feels right for that session. You do not have to follow the same one every week.
Aim for at least one solo session per week, up to four. Adjust to suit your own needs and objectives.
Many drills can be done with a training partner sharing the court. Share the court cost, but don't be tempted to play games instead.
Designed for confident club players who play competitive squash. Some beginners have purchased it and benefited, but it is not designed with beginners in mind. A dedicated beginners set is planned for the future.
Yes, especially if you had previous experience. Focus on quality over quantity as you regain your touch.
Most players notice improvements in ball control within 2–3 weeks of consistent practice (1-2 sessions per week). More significant changes typically take 5–7 weeks.
Using the Plan
Book a 45-minute slot for each 30–40 minute routine. This gives you time to complete the session properly and repeat any drills targeting your weaknesses.
For best results, 1–2 solo sessions per week. Ideally 5–10 sessions per month overall, but adjust to your own schedule and goals.
Do each routine at least twice before moving on. Rotate through all 12 to build a broad foundation, then focus on routines that target your specific weaknesses.
Yes — adapt and adjust to suit your needs and what feels right for that session.
Just a standard squash racket and suitable balls (see Use The Right Ball). Having a spare ball in your non-hitting hand is helpful. A4 paper targets are occasionally recommended.
